The first electrically lit Christmas tree was created for Edward H. Johnson, a co-worker of inventor Thomas Edison. He had light bulbs made especially for the Christmas tree. He proudly introduced the lighting on December 22, 1882. The tree was decorated with 80 red, white, and blue walnut-sized bulbs.
